DURGAPUJA CELEBRATION. FULL OF RITUALS AND TRADITIONS

Sindoor utsav
Sindoor khela or sindoor utsav is the last rituals of Durga puja celebrated by the ladies. Sindoor (vermillion), a symbol of protection is used by the hindu married women in foreheads. On Vijayadashami the hindiu women carry plates with sindoor, betel leaves (pan), betel nuts (supari), sweets, coin, sacred grass (dhurva) and new paddy seeds to offer Goddes Durga. The sindoor is first applied o the idol’s foreheads along with Kolabau, the sweets, pan and supari are offered to the idols. Then a small amount of sindoor is collected from devi for the sake of good healths of the husbands.  Thereafter the devotees apply that sindoor to each other’s forehead, chin and cheeks and to the noya (iron bangle) worn by every married bengal woman
